Serbia to remove guns from community after shooting massacres

Hundreds of thousands of Serbians have taken to the streets demanding tougher gun laws.

Hundreds of thousands of Serbians have taken to the streets demanding tougher gun laws following two mass shootings on consecutive days in early May 2023.

In one incident, seven children and a security guard were shot dead in a school rampage by a lone shooter.

A further eight people died in a shooting the following day.

Many thousands of Serbians handed in guns and ammunition during the first few days of a month-long,nationwide amnesty.

The country’s president vowed to” carry out an almost total disarmament of Serbia”.

The Washington Post reported gun-control measures will “include a two-year moratorium on new permits for small firearms and hunting weapons, and a review of all existing weapons permits within three months”.
